Bulldogs Mount Another Comeback at Concordia (Wis.)

Box Score

MEQUON, Wis. – The early season has produced some nail biting moments for first-year head coach Adam Krug. After a pair of easy wins during the first weekend against Northland, it has been three straight tight games and Friday night was probably the biggest escape of them all. Adrian trailed 3-0 early in the second period and rallied for a 5-3 win over Concordia (Wis.) to improve to 5-0 overall and 5-0 in the NCHA.

"Tonight was another example of the character that we've had at Adrian College from day one," said Krug. "Although we were down early, the boys stuck to the process and it paid off. We gave up a fluky goal early and Concordia seemed to get some life from it. Unfortunately I had to make a switch in net again, but that seemed to wake us up. The seniors were great for us tonight especially Hebebrand's line."

Senior Duston Hebebrand showed great leadership on the ice by having a four-point night to tie his career high. He had two goals and two assists for the Bulldogs who were outshot 33-32 for the first time this season. Hebebrand scored at even strength for Adrian's second goal and tied the game on the power play early in the third. Senior Ryan Lowe scored the game-winning goal at 14:52 of the third from Hebebrand and Josh Ranalli. Freshman Kyle Brothers scored his fifth of the season with fellow freshman Mathew Thompson to seal the win just 1:06 after the Lowe goal.

Ranalli scored the first goal for Adrian on the power play from Ryan Gieseler and Hebebrand at 2:33 of the second. It was his ninth goal in 11 career games against Concordia (Wis.) and his 50th career goal (19th on the power play). Senior goaltender Scott Shackell replaced starter James Hamby after he allowed three goals while making 10 saves. Shackell did his job by keeping all 20 shots he faced out of the net to improve to 4-0 against CUW in his career. The Bulldogs played a sound game by not committing a penalty in the contest. Adrian had been averaging 15.5 penalty minutes per game entering the game. With tonight's win the Bulldogs are now 29-0 against the Falcons including 13-0 on the road.
