ADRIAN, Mich. – The Bulldogs finished their weekend series with St. Scholastica Sunday afternoon. Adrian secured their overall lead in the NCHA standings by completing their weekend sweep of the Saints with a 4-2 decision.
The Bulldogs fell behind in the first period following a St. Scholastica goal at the 15:40 mark. Adrian would respond immediately with a goal at the 16:55 mark on a Kaylyn Schroka goal from Michelle Jones and Courtney Millar. This would lead to a 1-1 deadlock at the first intermission.
Adrian fell behind again in the second period when the Saints took a 2-1 lead at the 3:34 mark on a power play opportunity. The Bulldogs responded again as Kelsey Kusch sparked the Bulldog offense with two second period goals. Kusch first scored on the power play from Kristin Lewicki and Devyn Fitzhenry to tie the game. She then scored the game-winner at the 16:16 mark of the period when Sydney Smith created a breakaway and Lewicki fed Kusch to give the Bulldogs the 3-2 lead.
The Bulldogs would control the third period of action with 10 shots on goal while allowing just six. Adrian forced the Saints to pull their goaltender with 1:19 remaining. The Bulldogs fought off this attack by the Saints when Smith assisted Logan Taylor on an empty net goal.
Jade Walsh (7-0-1) earned the win in goal for Adrian by making 23 saves.
The Bulldogs will play again on December 13 when they travel to the University of Massachusetts-Boston for a 1 p.m. puck drop.
