Four-Goal Second Period Leads Adrian Past Marian (Wis.)

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Bulldogs took on Marian (Wis.) Friday night in the final weekend of regular season NCHA action. The Bulldogs and Sabres remained tied after the first period, but an Adrian four goal second period put the Bulldogs ahead for good as they won the game, 7-3. This win advances Adrian to 18-6 on the season and 11-6 in the NCHA.

The first period saw the Bulldogs take control of the game as they fired 19 shots on goal for the period to just 4 from the Sabres. The game remained scoreless until the 15:09 mark when Lauren Turner scored from Alix Vallee. This was immediately answered by Marian (Wis.) as the Sabres wasted a mere 46 seconds before tying the score with 4:05 left in the period. The two teams headed into the first intermission at a 1-1 deadlock.

The second period saw the Bulldogs dominate once again as the fired 14 shots on goal to just six from the Sabres. Adrian outscored Marian (Wis.) 4-0 for the period as they took control of the game and carried a 5-1 lead into the third period. The offensive surge began as Kelsey Kusch scored on a power play opportunity from Hannah McGowan and Vallee. Kaylyn Schroka scored unassisted just 24 seconds later and Bailey Robertson advanced the lead to 4-1 with 8:17 left in the period on a Vallee assist. Sydney Smith capped the Bulldog scoring in the second as she scored at the 15:37 mark from Courtney Millar and Devyn Fitzhenry.

The final period saw the Sabres battle back as they cut the lead to 5-2 just 1:01 into the period. The Bulldogs answered by scoring two goals just 1:40 of gameplay apart. Fitzhenry scored from Sydney Dobbin and Kusch and Hannah McGowan scored on a power play opportunity from Danielle Smith. The Sabres were able to score once more before the final horn but Adrian cruised to a 7-3 victory.

Jade Walsh made the start in the net for the Bulldogs as she advanced her record to 11-5 by stopping 23 shots and holding Marian (Wis.) to 0-6 on the power play.

The Bulldogs will cap their regular season tomorrow, Saturday, February 22 when they travel to Concordia (Wis.) for a 3 p.m. faceoff.
