INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Adrian College women's bowling team took on fourteen other teams at the Boom Apparel Intercollegiate Club Championships this past weekend in Indianapolis, Indiana. Teams were placed into four pools based on their end of the season rankings from collegebowling.com. Each team would bowl a four-game total pins baker match against all of the teams in their pool twice. Teams were then seeded for the single elimination bracket based on their win-loss record and ties were broken by total pins. Adrian went 4-2 in pool play only losing to No. 5 ranked Wright State University. Based on their record, Adrian earned the No. 6 seed and would face the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in the first round on Sunday.
On Sunday the team got off to a strong start defeating the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay 3-1 in a best-of-five baker game match. In round two, Adrian would face a familiar opponent No. 8 ranked Notre Dame College. Both teams struggled in the first match, but Adrian took game one 167-129. Adrian threw together a solid game and won game two 190-182. Notre Dame responded to stay alive and force another game as they won 188-144. Both teams went back-and-forth in game four and it came down to anchor bowler Nicole Loomis as she needed to make her ten pin and get good count to win the match. Loomis made her spare and struck for the win defeating Notre Dame 166-161. Adrian would move on to the third round to face No. 4 ranked Lindenwood University.
Adrian got off to a great start to take game one 193-166. Lindenwood responded and won game two 176-142. Adrian threw a better game, but two opens hurt them as they lost game three 206-166. An open and a split hurt Adrian early, but they strung together three strikes in frames 8-10 to force Lindenwood to stay clean for the win. Lindenwood proved why they are one of the top teams in the country as they shot a 211-188 and went on to defeat Wright State later in the championship match. Adrian would share third place with Neumann University as they were defeated by Wright State on the other side of the bracket. Freshman Brittney Antonelli was named to the All-Tournament Team as she anchored Adrian for most of the tournament.
"It was a great weekend for us as we competed against a very strong field containing six teams ranked top 20 in the nation. Our only losses were to the two teams that finished first and second. We also defeated Notre Dame who beat us twice to win the AHIBC Conference Championship back in February. That was a big win for us and it helped that all of the matches were on fresh oil. We had a very good look while other teams were struggling on the fresh, so we knew we had to get the lead early before we lost our hold on the pattern. This gives us a lot of confidence as we travel for the first time to Reno, Nevada for the Xbowling Intercollegiate Team Championships April 16-18 and will face off against some of the same teams we saw this weekend," said head coach Jody Fetterhoff.
