DULUTH, Minn. – The Adrian College men's hockey squad skated to a 2-2 tie at St. Scholastica on Friday night. It was the first tie in conference play (8-0-1) for the Bulldogs who are 1-0-3 in the month of January. The Saints gave the Bulldogs fits last season as the teams were 1-1-1 against each other. The teams played to overtime in both regular season games with a tie and Adrian win. CSS got the upset win in the third game which happened in the NCHA Tournament semifinals.

The Bulldogs playing for the first time in Duluth finished with a huge 41-19 advantage in shots on goal. Adrian took a 1-0 lead after the first period on a power play goal by Mathew Thompson at the 12:54 mark. Jeremy Olinyk and Josh Ranalli got credited with assists and pushed Ranalli's career point total to 101.

In the second period, it was a 21-3 margin for Adrian in shots on net. Despite this wide margin, the Saints scored the tying goal at 1:08 on the power play as Matt Malenstyn netted it with assists from Derek Hills and Dylan Nowakowski. The Bulldogs got a go-ahead goal by Ranalli at the 9:13 mark with Kyle Brothers and Olinyk assisting on Adrian's final goal.

It took St. Scholastica just 1:34 into the third to tie the game at 2-2 as Derek Sutliffe scored the tying goal from Justin Krabben and Dave Williams. One of the best power plays in the country did not fire on all cylinders as Adrian went 1-for-8 including 0-for-3 in the third. Tyler Bruggeman made 39 saves for the Saints while Scott Shackell stopped 17 shots for the Bulldogs.
