Men's NCAA Ice Hockey

Lions Shock Bulldogs 3-0

Box Score

HANCOCK, Mich. – Friday night was a perfect example why you can't judge a game on paper as the men's hockey team lost 3-0 at Finlandia University. The Bulldogs were unbeaten in 10 conference games entering the day while Finlandia had won three games all season. Adrian put more pressure on the Lions with a 41-19 advantage in shots on goal, but none of those crossed the goal line. Andrew Brownlee had a career highlight type of night with 41 saves including 18 in the final period.

The Bulldogs had won all 15 matchups against the Lions in the all-time series including six on the road. The teams were deadlocked after two periods and it seemed like Adrian was going to break through by peppering the cage on a couple power play chances. Adrian went 0-for-5 for the game and committed just two penalties. The Lions took advantage to break into the scoring column at 12:38 of the final period. Lane King scored the game-winner with Skylar Harding and Andrew Martin providing assists.

The back-breaker came at 16:12 as Lucas Lahnala scored short-handed on a shot from near the right circle which gave Finlandia a 2-0 lead. Lahnala's fourth of the season was assisted by Travis Armstrong and Martin. Adrian was forced to play with an empty net for 3:22 with a two-goal deficit. Thomas Clayton finished off the upset at 19:40 with an assist from Chris Hoffman. Scott Shackell (9-1-3) stopped 16 shots but allowed three goals on seven shots in the final 20 minutes.
