HANCOCK, Mich. – The Bulldogs took on Finlandia University in their final regular season matchup with the Lions. The special teams for Adrian helped the Bulldogs solidify their 12th NCHA win of the season and their 17th win overall.
Hannah McGowan started the scoring for Adrian at the 2:17 mark of the first period from Courtney Millar to give the Bulldogs the 1-0 lead. Adrian then saw their special teams leave the Lions behind as they scored twice both shorthanded and on the power play for four second period goals. Michelle Jones gave Adrian the 2-0 as she recorded a shorthanded goal at the 14:14 mark. This started a stretch of four goals in the final 5:36 of the period. Kristin Lewicki added her seventh career shorthanded goal from Kristi Zink at the 15:00 mark to give the Bulldogs their second shorthanded goal following a minor for roughing by Courtney Millar at 14:03.
Adrian then used this momentum to make their presence felt as their top-ranked power play scored twice before the end of the second period. Sarah Shureb scored from Kaylyn Schroka and Sydney Smith to give Adrian a 4-0 lead before Devyn Fitzhenry scored from Lewicki and Logan Taylor with just nine seconds remaining in the period.
Adrian maintained this 5-0 lead throughout the third period to advance their overall record to 17-0-3 with a 12-0-2 mark in the NCHA. Jade Walsh (17-0-3) earned the victory in goal for Adrian by making eight saves in 40 minutes of action. Brooke Gibson aided the shutout for the Bulldogs by making four saves in 19:38 of ice time.
The Bulldogs recorded their sixth shutout of the season and they now stand with the No.1 team defense in Division III, allowing just 1.20 goals per game.
