Brandon Katona, Crystal Brown Score in Adrian's 4-2 MIAA Home Loss to Trine

Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich.--Nick Lang scored two goals, including the eventual game-winner, as visiting Trine University doubled up Adrian College, 4-2, in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's soccer action at Docking Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Thunder improve to 6-8-1 overall and 3-6 in the MIAA, while the Bulldogs fall to 4-8-2 on the season and 3-5-1 in the league.

Freshman Brandon Katona led Adrian with his team-leading fifth goal of the season to put the 'Dogs up 1-0 in the fifth minute. Adrian took the lead as the result of a nice combination play. Sophomore Shayan Shushtari took a pass from junior Mark Proctor and dribbled down the left flank, then crossing into the middle of the box where Katona got a piece of the ball and sent it just inside the left post.

The Thunder, however, tied it in the 17th minute on a nice passing play of their own. Brandon Villanueva received a pass on the left wing to the goal line and sent a pass near the top of the 18-yard box, where a teammate dummied the ball as Lang one-timed the shot into the back of the net.

Bill Wilson, who also assisted on Trine's first goal, gave the Thunder the lead for good in the 26th minute, capitalizing on a miss-fire by Lang and scoring from 15 yards out.

Lang scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute from Villanueva. Trine led 3-1. Ben Moricz and Lang combined on their fourth goal three minutes later. Lang had two assists for a six-point night.

Brown, a senior, recorded his second career goal in an AC uniform--and first in 2015--in the 89th minute to account for the final margin. He headed home a corner kick by sophomore Sean Cain.

In the second half, Adrian had two quality looks on frame as Katona hit the left post with a hard, low-driving shot in the 52 seconds in and senior Miles Masters-Clayborne had back-to-back chances within a 21 second span in the 69th minute--the first shot cleared off the goal line by a TU defender for a team save.

Trine held a slim 15-12 shots advantage, but Adrian had six of the nine corners in the contest.

Adrian hits the road on Saturday for a 4:30 p.m. start against Hope College in another conference game.
