Bulldogs Fall to 5-0 to No. 4 Calvin College

Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's soccer team faced nationally ranked Calvin College and came out behind in a 5-0 loss.

The Bulldogs best chance came early in the first half when freshman forward Brandon Katona received a pass at midfield and dodged his way through the Calvin's defense.  Katona took the shot from just outside the box, but was stymied by Scarlet Knights' senior keeper Niko Giantsopoulous's diving save.

The game would remain deadlocked after Katona's try, but only until the 22nd minute when Calvin's senior defenseman Nick Groenewold stole the ball at midfield and ran through Adrian's defense.   The unassisted goal was Groenewold's sixth of the season and put the Scarlett Knights up 1-0.

The Bulldogs were unable to respond and would end up losing the contest 5-0 after another first half goal and three second half goals by Calvin.

With the win Calvin (No. 4 D3soccer.com) improves to 16-0-1 and remains undefeated in conference.  Adrian's record falls to 4-11-2 after the loss, with its conference record becoming 3-8-1.

The Bulldogs will look to rebound when they travel to Olivet, Michigan on Wednesday October 28 to face the Comets of Olivet College at 4:00 p.m.  Adrian's home finale will take place Saturday October 31 at 7:00 p.m.
