Strong First Half Propels Men's Soccer Past Olivet in MIAA Road Finale, 2-0

Box Score

OLIVET, Mich.--The offense scored twice in the first half and the defense put the clamps on Olivet College as the Adrian College men's soccer team blanked the host Comets, 2-0, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association game on Wednesday.

Adrian improves to 5-11-2 overall and 4-8-1 in the MIAA to snap a six-game losing streak, while Olivet drops to 4-14-1 on the season and 3-9-1 in the conference.

Freshman Tad Davis gave Adrian all the offense it would need in the 10th minute when he scored an unassisted goal from close range, beating the keeper to the far post. With his fifth goal of the season, Davis leaps ahead classmate Brandon Katona for the team scoring lead with 12 points; Katona has five goals and an assist for 11 points.

Senior Lino Taormina was a rock in the Adrian goal, recording eight saves as Olivet enjoyed a 13 to 9 shots advantage. Taormina recorded his third shutout this fall.

Just 1 minute and 34 seconds after Davis' goal, senior Riley Jackson scored an insurance goal, unassisted. His blast from near the top of the penalty area beat keeper Ryan Grashik down the center of the goal. It was Jackson's first marker of 2015 and his first since 2012.
