Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Adrian College men's soccer team gave nationally ranked Calvin College (No. 6 NSCAA, No. 12 D3soccer.com) all it could handle in the first half before eventually falling to the host Knights, 3-0, in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Wednesday. The visiting Bulldogs fall to 4-5-1 overall and 3-2 in the MIAA, while Calvin improves to 9-0-1 on the season, 5-0 in conference.
Micah Beard scored an unassisted goal in the 40th minute by poking in a loose ball in front of the net for the only scoring Calvin would need.
Senior keeper Lino Taormina kept the Bulldogs close by making five of his seven saves on the day in the first half.
The Knights added insurance goals in the second half coming in the 65th and 75th minutes.
Niko Giantsopoulos did not face a shot to register his sixth shutout in 2015 for the Knights.
Adrian returns to the pitch on Saturday for a MIAA home contest versus Olivet at Docking Stadium, beginning at 7 p.m.
