Men's NCAA Ice Hockey

Fast Start Propels #2/3 @ACBulldogHockey Past Aurora in First-Ever Meeting, 8-1

Box Score

GENEVA, Ill.--Adrian College utilized a balance offense with seven different goal-scorers and five Bulldogs recorded multi-point games in a convincing 8-1 triumph over host Aurora University in men's hockey action on Friday at the Fox Valley Ice Arena, marking the first meeting between the schools.

Nationally-ranked Adrian (No. 2 D3hockey/No. 3 USCHO) improves to 11-1-1 on the season after extending its unbeaten streak to 12-straight games and 7-1-1 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association South Division. The Spartans, who are a newcomer to the NCHA, drop to 1-10-1 overall and 1-5-1 in the South.

The Bulldogs came out strong by scoring four goals while outshooting the Spartans 23 - 4 in the first period.

Adrian's Daniel Lisi scored the first goal just 3 minutes and 27 seconds into the game, marking the forward's second goal of the season.

Just one minute later, junior classmate Austin Hervey would score his first goal of the season on a pass from classmate Brett Pinkerton to put the Bulldogs up 2-0.

It looked like Aurora would mount a comeback as it responded just 29 seconds later with a goal by Tim Santopoalo that brought the Spartans to within one, and spoiling AC freshman netminder Kevin Entmaa's shutout bid

But the Bulldogs were on a mission and scored at the 8:19 mark to bring their lead back to two with the score becoming 3-1. The goal was scored by senior Chris Leone, his fifth of the season.

Adrian followed up with another goal just over a minute later, as sophomore Mathew Thompson scored his ninth goal of the season, bringing the score to 4-1 where it would stay for the rest of the first period.

Then freshman Cory Dunn would score the only goal of the second period, while the Bulldogs were shorthanded, building the team's lead to 5-1.

Sophomore Kyle Brothers, Pinkerton and Thompson would each score in the third for Adrian to bring the score to a final seven-point margin.

Sophomore Taylor McCloy, while he couldn't find the back of the net himself, led the Bulldogs with four assists in the game.

Thompson's game-leading two goals brought his season total to ten making him the team leader in that category, and also surging ahead with a Bulldog-best 20 points.

In the net, Entmaa earned his ninth win on the season while remaining unbeaten in his brief collegiate career. He made 13 saves while only allowing one goal on the night.

These same two teams will conclude their weekend series tomorrow at 4:00 p.m.
