DAYTON, Ohio--The Adrian College women's bowling team made its 2016-17 season debut over the weekend after capturing the 2016 Collegiate Club National Championships last April. Under second-year head coach John Essenmacher III, the Bulldogs finished in seventh place at the Orange & Black Invitational held at Poelking Lanes South.
Adrian came out throwing the ball great on the first day, ending up in fourth place. The following day, the Bulldogs kept rolling along and made history by qualifying for the tournament round. Adrian squared off against Lindenwood University in the first round, but couldn't string any strikes together and lost 3-0 in the best-of-5 series.
Individually for the Bulldogs, senior Brittney Antonelli placed 13th overall with a 190.6 average for five games with 953 total pins, junior Jennifer Kelly was 14th with a 188.6 average for five games with 943, and newcomer Lauren Krywy finished in 21st place with a five-game 182.4 average for 912.
"Overall, it was a great starting weekend for our team. Our women's program had never made the cut in this tournament before, and it was nice to see us break through," Essenmacher said. "We are off to a good start and this should give us great momentum for the tournaments coming up."
