Adrian Scores Two Goals in Third Period to Pull Off Win

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Bulldogs were trailing 4-1 at the beginning of the second period before rattling off three straight to tie the game 4-4 heading into the final period. Brooke Lupi (1,2) and Kristi Zink (2,0) each scored in the final period to give Adrian the 6-4 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Period: CUW 3, Adrian 1

• The Falcons jumped on the Bulldogs to take a 1-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game.

• Adrian freshman, Maggie Mitter would respond, tying the game at 1-1 in the final five minutes of the first period. Lupi and Kelly O'Sullivan assisted on the play.

• CUW responded, scoring two goals in the final three minutes of the period to give the Falcons a 3-1 lead heading into the first intermission.

• Despite the goal differential, the Bulldogs did edge the Falcons in shots for the first period, 12-11.

Second Period: Adrian 4, CUW 4

• CUW's Brandi Muller scored the second of her two goals in the opening minutes of the second period to give the Falcons a 4-1 lead over Adrian.

• The Bulldogs would respond by scoring three goals during the remainder of the period to tie the game, 4-4 going into the third and final period of regulation.

Kaylyn Schroka scored at the 17:24 mark in the period off an assist from Sarah Shureb.

Kristi Zink scored the first of two goals from Lupi and Schroka on the power play with 1:49 remaining in the period to bring Adrian within one goal of tying.

Kristin Lewicki tied the game off an assist from Rylee Bates with just 16 seconds left in the second.

• Adrian dominated the shots on goal for the period, 12-3.

Third Period: Adrian 6, CUW 4

• The Bulldogs came out flying in the third period. They put 20 pucks on net to the Falcons six.

Lupi scored on a power play to give Adrian its first lead of the game, 5-4. She was assisted by Shureb and Sydney Smith.

Kristi Zink put the final puck in the net with less than two minutes remaining. Schroka assisted on the goal.

• Adrian finished the game winning 42-73 in the faceoff circle and 2-7 (28.6%) on the power play.

TOP DOGS

Lupi and Schroka each scored one goal and had two assists to lead Adrian in scoring. Lupi's goal was a power play goal and the game-winning goal.

Zink scored two goals for the game, the first two goals of the season for her. It is the first time in her career that she has scored multiple goals in a single game. 

Jade Walsh (W, 4-1) played a total of 39:55 and saved eight of the nine shots she faced to earn the win.

THE OPPOSITION

• Brandi Muller led the Falcons with three points (2,1). She was the only multiple-point scorer for the team.

• Natasha Wanless and Baylee Darling were the other goal scorers for CUW.

• Lexi Holman, Emily Goodman and Veronika Metanova each tallied one assist.

UP NEXT

• Adrian will travel to face Finlandia in a two-game series on Friday and Saturday, January 20-21 before facing Northland on Sunday, January 22.  The Friday night game against Finlandia is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
