Kyle Brothers Joins Century Mark as No. 4/7 Bulldogs Exile Spartans, 6-2, to Sweep NCHA Series

ADRIAN, Mich.--Freshman defenseman Bud Madej was credited with a career-best three points, and junior Kyle Brothers reached a milestone, as the nationally ranked Adrian College men's hockey team used a strong third period to vanquish visiting Aurora University, 6-2, in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association action on Saturday.

FOR ADRIAN
= Madej scored his first career collegiate goal and had two assists for his first multi-point game in an Adrian black and gold uniform. He also had a plus-3 rating.

= Junior goalie Dillon Kelley made 14 saves to improve to 4-0 on the season.

= Freshman Vincent Paquette earned a goal and an assist for a two-point afternoon.

= Transfer Dino Balsamo scored again in his third game as a Bulldog and was outstanding in the face-off circle, winning 14 of 23 draws.

Senior Austin Hervey scored a goal and led all student-athletes with a season's best eight shots on goal.

THE OPPOSITION
Trevor Hoth and Tim Santopoalo found the back of the net for the Spartans.

= Alex Holm chipped in two assists.

Ron Lindgren, Brendan Logan and Rudolfs Kalvitis were credited with an assist apiece.

Drew Doyon led all skaters with 19 face-off wins and 26 draws.

= Max Kirkwood had 44 saves in his first start in goal for the Spartans.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian had a huge shots on goal advantage of 50 to 16.

= Sophomore Trevor Boyd gave Adrian a 1-0 lead 5 minutes and 52 seconds in. Madej won a battle along the rightside boards and chipped the puck to Paquette at the blue line. Paquette moved down to the left and fed Boyd, who one-timed the feed from between the circles into the back of the net.

= Junior Austin Rust made it 2-0 less than 4 minutes later as Adrian pounced on a turnover in the Aurora defensive zone. Sophomore Chase Matson intercepted a pass in the middle of the ice and slipped the puck to the right to Rust, who wristed a shot into the upper right corner from close range.

= Kirkwood made 19 stops on 21 shots faced in the opening period to help keep Aurora close.

= That play in net paid off as Santopoalo scored on the power-play at 11:10 of the second.

= Balsamo restored the Bulldogs' two-goal lead just 3:20 later on assists from sophomore Cameron Cooper and Brothers. That proved to be the game-winner and closed the scoring in the third period.

= Adrian seized control in the final stanza with goals by Hervey, Madej and Paquette on the power play.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Brothers becomes the 12th Bulldog in school history to reach the 100-point plateau, and now has officially 38 goals and 62 assists in 71 career games played.

= Adrian leads the all-time series--which began during the 2015-16 campaign--over Aurora, 4-0, outscoring the Spartans 34-5.

= Kelley is now 8-1 in his career to tie Tyler Parks (2015-16) for fourth place on the Adrian all-time goalie wins chart.

= Kirkwood, who established a season high with 44 saves, transferred to Aurora after playing the 2015-16 at fellow NCAA Division III program Worcester State.

= Cooper notched his first career collegiate assist.

= Adrian has balanced scoring as the top five point getters are separated by just three: Boyd with 9+13=22; Paquette, 10+11=21; sophomore Cory Dunn, 5+16=21; classmate Bryan Yim, 11+8=19, and Brothers, 5+14=19.

= All 24 skaters on the Bulldogs roster has registered at least one point this season.

= Balsamo joined Adrian in January after playing the first semester at Bentley University in Waltham, Mass., which is affiliated with NCAA Division I Atlantic Hockey Conference. He had two goals and an assist in nine appearances with the Falcons.
