Club Baseball Sweeps Pair from Oakland University with 12-4 and 14-3 Home Triumphs

ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College club baseball team ran their record to 7-3 in the fall season on Sunday with a doubleheader sweep of Oakland University at a rainy and windy Nicolay Field. The Bulldogs scored in double figures in both contests downing the Golden Grizzlies 12-4 and 14-3 in five innings.

In game number one the Grizzlies jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Adrian quickly responded with two runs in the bottom of the first and then used a big five-run second inning to seize control of the contest. Adrian would go on to score runs in every inning but the fifth, including a big three-run fourth inning.

Collecting two runs batted in apiece for the Bulldogs were Andrew Beitel, Evan Gugnacki, Tyler Roushia and Karsen Winters. Roushia led the Bulldogs with three hits, including a pair of triples and Erich Stephenson also added a second inning solo home run for Adrian.

Mark Cash picked up the win on the mound for the Bulldogs with six strong innings of work, allowing just one earned run and striking out seven Golden Grizzlies. Cash is now 2-0 on the mound this season.

The Bulldogs wasted no time taking command of the second game, scoring eight times in the first inning and adding to their lead with a five-run third inning in a game shortened due to the ten run mercy rule.

Adrian sent 11 men to the plate in the first inning with the big blows coming in the form of a three run double by Brandon Milligan and a three run homer by Stephenson to score six of the Bulldogs eight runs. Despite plating 14 runs the Bulldogs were held to just seven hits, with Gugnacki leading the way with a pair of singles.

The eight first inning runs were more than enough for Adrian starter Kyle Stratton, who needed little help from his defense recording 12 of the 15 Golden Grizzlies outs by strikeout, while surrendering just three hits. The victory evens Stratton record for the year at 1-1.

The Bulldogs will play their final games of the home slate scheduled next Saturday afternoon when they square off against Central Michigan in a 1 o'clock doubleheader at Nicolay Field.
