Bulldogs Start 2017-18 Campaign With a 6-0 Win Against Stevenson in Bulldog Bowl Day One

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College women's hockey team cruised to a 6-0 win against Stevenson in the teams season opener. Kelly O'Sullivan led the Bulldogs with four points (2+2=3).

HOW IT HAPPENED

Adrian scored a goal on 14 shots in the first period to enter intermission with a 1-0 lead. Olivia Fox scored the first goal of the season for the Bulldogs off an assist from Kristi Zink. The Bulldog defense held Stevenson to only three shots in the opening 20 minutes.

Newcomer Savannah Veri scored her first career goal 5:02 into the second period to give Adrian a 2-0 cushion. She was assisted on the goal by Kelly O'Sullivan.

O'Sullivan scored a goal in the third period on the first power play opportunity for the Bulldogs. She was assisted on the play by Tory Harshman and Kristi Zink. Veri scored her second goal in the game to give Adrian the 3-0 lead. Maggie Mitter assisted on the goal.

O'Sullivan knotted her second goal of the game at the 16:54 mark of the third period to give the Bulldogs a commanding 5-0 lead. She was assisted by Taylor Henthorne. Jacqueline White scored her first goal as a member of the team with just 10 seconds remaining in the game. O'Sullivan earned her second assist of the game on the play.

Adrian outshot the Mustangs 49-12 in the game. The Bulldogs were also 1-for-2 on the power play (.500); Stevenson was 0-for-3 on the power play.

TOP DOGS

• O'Sullivan had a game-high four points in the winning effort. She tallied a total of five shots on the night.

• Veri scored twice on five shots and had a +3 to finish her first game as a Bulldog.

• Team captain Kristi Zink had two assists and recorded four shots.

Tory Harshman, Maggie Mitter, and Taylor Henthorne each had one assist.

• Freshman goalie Kate Turner (W, 1-0) made 12 saves in her first career start to earn the win and complete the shutout.

THE OPPOSITION

• Chelsea Blackburn led the Mustangs with three shots in the game.

• Monica Pozuc and Sarah Antonelli each tallied two shots.

• Jordan Pirrello, Allie Sabatini, Chelsea Ellis, Savannah Sommers, and Cierra Siemasko each had one shot.

• Goalie Caitie Darosa (L, 0-1) saved 43 of the 49 shots she faced.

The Bulldogs will play No. 4 Wisconsin River Falls tomorrow in the Bulldog Bowl Championship game at 3:30 p.m., ET.
