Four Unanswered Goals Leads @acbulldoghockey Past St. Scholastica, 4-1

Box Score

ADRIAN, Mich.--The nationally-ranked Adrian College men's hockey team displayed a balanced offense with 10 different skaters finding the scoresheet as the Bulldogs came from behind to repel visiting St. Scholastica, 4-1, in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association contest on Friday evening. After trailing 1-0 after the first period, Adrian scored twice in each of the next two stanzas to net its fourth win in a row.

THE BASICS
= Final Score: Adrian College 4, College of St. Scholastica 1

= Location: Arrington Ice Arena; Adrian, Mich.

= Records: Adrian Bulldogs 7-1 overall (6-1 NCHA South Division); St. Scholastica 3-5 overall (3-4 NCHA North Division)

= National Rankings: Adrian--#2 D3hockey.com, #2 USCHO.com polls

TOP 'DAWGS
= Senior goalie Dillon Kelley made 20 stops to improve to 3-0 on the season.

= Ten different skaters registered a point on the scoresheet including goal scorers sophomore Dino Balsamo, junior Brian Bachnak, senior Kyle Brothers and junior Trevor Boyd.

= Sophomore Vincent Paquette had a game-high five shots on goal.

= Classmate Matt McNair was 7-for-13 in the face-off dot.

THE OPPOSITION
= Kyle Star scored the Saints lone goal with Parker Mismash and Kale Derkson being credited with the assists.

= Brett Radford was 7-for-10 on face-offs and Derkson led all centermen with 15 wins (against 27 draws).

= Carson Rose and Derkson led the team with three shots on goal apiece.

= Goalie Zane Steeves tried to keep CSS close by stopping 34 of 37 shots he faced.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian peppered CSS in shots on goal, 38 to 21. The Bulldogs had a 15-3 advantage in the second period alone, scoring twice about six minutes apart.

= Bachnak jammed home a shot by junior Austin Rust to score the go-ahead goal for Adrian midway through the second period. It's the first game-winning goal for him since his freshman season.

= The Bulldogs, who were leading 2-1 after two periods, added a pair of insurance goals in the third. Brothers won a scrum along the boards near the goal line and received a return pass from junior defenseman Cameron Cooper for his third goal of the season with 9 minutes and 17 seconds to go in the game. Boyd added an empty-netter with 1 second left after junior Chase Matson took advantage of a CSS turnover in the Bulldogs' defensive zone and chipped ahead a pass to Boyd.

= Balsamo tied the game 1-1 as Adrian was on the power play 4:19 into the second period.

= Star gave the Saints a 1-0 lead--his first goal of the season--at 7:46 mark of the first period as his shot from the right face-off circle went through Kelley's pads.

= The Adrian penalty-kill unit successfully killed off six power-plays against.

= With the score 2-1 in Adrian's favor, CSS had two terrific looks at the goal close-in to start the final 20 minutes but Kelley stood tall. Dustin Cordeiro was stymied by Kelley's right pad on a one-timer from the top of the crease and Mismash was also stuffed in the low slot, as the Saints still trailed by one.

= CSS went with an extra attacked for almost the final 2 minutes but couldn't get two goals to tie it and force overtime.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Kelley is now 12-1 lifetime with a 1.92 goals-against average and hasn't suffered a defeat since his 2016 sophomore campaign.

= The Bulldogs have killed off 19 consecutive opponent power play opportunities.

= Adrian has allowed just three goals in as many games. In eight games, the Bulldogs defense have given up only 12 goals through eight games.

= The Adrian team is conducting a toy drive for the Associated Charities of Lenawee County this weekend and loyal Bulldog fans were in full-support mode of the cause by stuffing bins in Arrington with items to donate. The event lasts through Saturday's game.

= St. Scholastica sits with 499 all-time victories as a program that started playing NCAA hockey in 1972. The Saints have lost five consecutive starts, including a 4-14 goal-differential during that stretch.

= The Bulldogs are now 1-1 this season when giving up the first goal.
