Bulldogs Make History In Final Game of Regular Season

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Adrian College women's hockey team finished the regular season with a 4-1 win at Lake Forest. With the victory, the Bulldogs have now completed a perfect 18-0-0 conference record for the regular season. This is the first time in program history that Adrian has completed the regular season unbeaten and untied in regular season conference play. Kristin Lewicki led the Bulldogs in the game with three points (2,1), one of her goals came on the power play, to propel the team to the historic win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Period: Adrian 1, Lake Forest 1

• The Foresters took the lead just 6:08 into the game when Olivia Spellmire scored on a power play.

Rose Krasofsky responded with 3:47 remaining until the first intermission to tie the game, 1-1. The goal was assisted by Lewicki.

• The opening period shot totals for each team were almost as even as the score with Lake Forest edging Adrian 12-11.

Second Period: Adrian 3, Lake Forest 1

Lewicki scored her first goal 3:46 into the second period to give Adrian its first lead, 2-1. She was assisted on the goal by Lexie Tzafaroglou.

Lewicki would finish her hat trick, her second of the season, with 7:16 left in the period. Brooke Lupi and Kristi Zink were on the assist.

• Adrian dominated the second period, outshooting Lake Forest 23-5.

Third Period: Adrian 4, Lake Forest 1

Kaylyn Schroka scored on the power play 4:39 into the final period to essentially seal the victory for the Bulldogs, 4-1. Zink and Kelly O'Sullivan tallied assists on the play.

• For the second straight period, Adrian dominated in the shots on goal department, 14-0. Adrian outshot the Foresters 48-17 in the game.

• The Bulldogs finished the game 2-6 (.333) on the power play; Lake Forest was 1-7 (.143).

TOP DOGS

Lewicki (2,1) led the team with three points

• Zink (0,2) finished with two points.

O'Sullivan had a game-high eight shots on goal.

Schroka (1,0) and Krasofsky (1,0) each scored a goal for the Bulldogs.

Brooke Gibson (W, 11-1-0) saved 16 of the 17 shots she faced in 59:55 of play.

THE OPPOSITION

• Spellmire scored the Foresters' only goal.

• Kate Fanning and Kayla Griffith each had an assist.

• Griffith led the team with three shots on goal.

• Jacque Rogers (L, 12-3-0) made 44 saves in the game.

SEASON WRAP-UP

• The Bulldogs finish the season in the #1 spot in the NCHA standings with a perfect 18-0 record in conference play. 

• Adrian will host the number-four seed, Marian in the Slaats Cup Playoffs next weekend in a two-game series, with a mini-game if necessary. The series is set to begin on Friday, February 24
