Women's Basketball Splits Season Series with Kalamazoo after 74-65 Road Triumph

KALAMAZOO, Mich.--Junior Ashley Morris scored 23 points to pace a balanced offense, and the Adrian defense held Kalamazoo to a .315 field goal percentage, as the Bulldogs rallied for a 74-65 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's basketball victory on Saturday.

TOP 'DAWGS
= Morris added seven rebounds and a team-best five assists against just one turnover.

= Sophomores Emily Somerville and Alivia Kondrath chipped in 14 and 13 points, respectively.

= Freshman Sha'Trice Graves came off the bench to net 13 points on 6-for-7 from the floor, seven rebounds and two blocked shots.

= Sophomore Aly Kubik pulled down a game-best 13 rebounds.

= Classmate Angelina Goosby and freshman Rachel Bucher added nine and seven rebounds apiece to bolster Adrian's 53-42 rebounding advantage over the Hornets.

THE OPPOSITION
= Emily Kozal led all scorers with 30 points on 10-for-18 from the field, including five 3-pointers. She also had eight rebounds.

= Danielle Simon registered a triple-double of 16 points, 10 rebounds and a game-high 10 assists. She also had three steals. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian trailed 23-18 after the first quarter and 37-33 at halftime, but outscored Kzoo 41-28 in the second half to earn the nine-point win after falling behind by as many as 12 points.  

= When Mya Gough made a jumper to give Kzoo the biggest lead for either team in the game at 32-20 with 5 minutes and 34 seconds to go in the second quarter, Kondrath drained a 3ball to ignite a 17-1 run as the Bulldogs closed within four at the break. Both Kondrath and Graves scored five points during that stretch to help Adrian get back into the game.

= A Goosby layup at 7:30 mark of the third quarter put Adrian in the lead for good, 38-37. There were two ties the rest of the way and the Bulldogs never looked back.

= The Hornets were limited to 23 of 73 from the field while Adrian shot 44.3 percent on 27-for-61.

= Kzoo forced 12 AC turnovers to enjoy a 14-2 edge on points off turnovers.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Adrian is on a season-long three-game winning streak after enduring a seven-game losing streak, which was the longest since the 2010-11 campaign.

= Kzoo won 58-52 in Adrian on Dec. 13.

= Adrian now leads the all-time series over Kzoo, 66-31, including 32-14 on the road. The Bulldogs are 16-7 in their last 23 meetings with the Hornets.

= Morris needs six points to reach 500 in her two-and-a-half year collegiate career. She surpassed 100 career assists (113) recently, as well.

= The Hornets' four turnovers are tied for the fewest in the MIAA this season. (Trine had four at Adrian on Jan. 10.

= Kozol's 30 points this afternoon are a career high.
