Top-Ranked Men's Hockey Tames the Finlandia Lions, 7-1

ADRIAN, Mich.--The nationally-ranked Adrian College men's hockey team got offensive production from up and down the lineup, including six defensemen combining for three goals and six assists, as the Bulldogs whipped visiting Finlandia University by a 7-1 score in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association on Saturday. Adrian has won nine-straight.

TOP 'DAWGS
= Juniors Trevor Boyd and Braden Hellems both tallied three points on a goal and two assists to pace the offense.

= Sophomore blueliner Joey Colatarci scored his first goal of the season. 

= Senior goalie Dillon Kelley made 26 saves to improve to 6-1 on the season, setting a career high in victories (he was 5-0 in 2016-17).

= Also enjoying multi-point games were senior Kyle Brothers (1g,1a), junior defenseman Cameron Cooper (1g,1a) and sophomore Ryan Cusin (2a).

= Senior captain Mathew Thompson (10-12), senior assistant Taylor McCloy (11-15) and sophomore Dino Balsamo (12-17) had outstanding games in the face-off circle for Adrian, which commanded a 49-19 advantage.

THE OPPOSITION
= Garrett Nichol scored Finlandia's lone goal.

= Daniel Spencer notched 48 saves on 55 shots faced.

= Kendall Bolen-Porter was 7-for-15 on face-offs.

= Michael Chuinard and Blake Peavey led FU with four shots on goal apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian scored three times in each of the first and second periods, and never looked back. In the opening stanza, Colatarci got the scoring started with a power play goal 1 minute and 41 seconds in. Boyd and Cooper found the back of the net nine seconds apart starting at 11:07 to build a comfortable 3-0 lead.

= In the second period, Brothers, senior Austin Rust and Hellems made it 6-0 before Nichol spoiled the shutout bid on assists by Curran Klein and Cam Wirick at 15:15.

= Adrian went 2-for-4 on the power play and killed off all four Lions man-advantage opportunities.

= The Bulldogs outshot Finlandia 55-27 including 25-10 in the decisive first period.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Adrian hasn't allowed a power play goal in eight consecutive opponent chances.

= The Bulldogs lead Finlandia 21-1 in the all-time series, including 11-0 at Arrington Ice Arena.
