Men's Tennis Comes Back to Beat Holy Cross For First Win of Fall

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College men's tennis team split on Saturday, Sep. 22, losing to Cornerstone 6-3, and defeating Holy Cross (Ind.) 5-4 for its first win of the fall.

The duo of junior Nolan Duda and sophomore Jovanni Wagner-Payne picked up a win at three doubles, the only doubles win of the first match. Adrian's two other wins against Cornerstone came at five and six singles, with freshman Charlie Mora and Adam Caplin picking up the wins at five and six, respectively.

The Bulldogs also only won one match in doubles in the match against Holy Cross, with the junior tandem of Nate Waterbury and Tanner Wilcox winning 8-4 at the lead doubles spot. Adrian got its second point to draw the match level at six singles where Wagner-Payne was able to put a 1-6 first set behind him to win with a third set super tiebreaker 10-4. Mora picked up his second win of the day at five singles in straight sets, and freshman Cam Rafinski added a win at three singles to draw the match level at four points with one singles remaining. Waterbury dropped the first set in a tie-break but won the second set to force the super tiebreaker. It took two extra points, but Waterbury got the job done 12-10 to secure the first victory on the year for the Bulldogs.
