Football Doubles Up MIAA Foe Finlandia in Snowy Conditions, 48-24

HANCOCK, Mich.--Jack Wurzer was a tidy 10-for-13 passing with 220 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while the Adrian rushing attack produced 322 yards, as the visiting Bulldogs rolled over Finlandia, 48-24, in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association football action under less than ideal field conditions. 

THE BASICS

= Location: McAfee Field; Weather: Snow, 38 degrees, Wind West 17 mph

= Records: Adrian Bulldogs 4-4 overall, 3-2 MIAA; Finlandia Lions 0-8 overall, 0-5 MIAA

TOP DAWGS
= Freshman Jerome Neal ran the ball nine times for 104 yards for an 11.6 yard-average and a TD.

= Wurzer's favorite target was junior Henry Wilson who had five receptions for 112 yards and two TDs.

= Senior Joe Cleary added three receptions for 80 yards.

= Classmate Colton Randle had 99 yards rushing on seven carries--a 14.1 yard average--and a TD.

= Junior Joey Gossett got some significant playing time at running back and responded with 84 yards on 10 attempts.

= Sophomore Justin Wiseman led the team with five tackles and 10 total--both career highs.

= Freshmen Dwight Mann and Blake Masterman both had four solos and seven total tackles.  

THE OPPOSITION
= DJ Davis rushed for a game-high 136 yards on 20 carries and three TDs.

= Kenny Kujawa caught seven passes for 105 yards. 

= Marvin Anthony led all defenders with 13 total tackles, eight solo.

= Chris Newell also had eight solo stops (9 total) plus three pass breakups.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian never trailed while building leads of 21-6 after the first quarter, 34-12 at halftime and 41-18 in the fourth quarter.

= Finlandia held a significant edge in time of possession with 36 minutes and 48 seconds, but the Bulldogs made good use of their time (23:12) with the football.

= Senior Morgan Harris scored two touchdowns in the first half to help Adrian take a comfortable lead into the locker room. He opened the scoring with a bullying 2-yard run with 13:15 to go in the first quarter, capping a five-play, 60-yard drive in the first 1:45 of the contest. He had another 2-yard TD run with 5:29 left in the second quarter to conclude a drive that consumed seven plays, 83 yards and 2:48 TOP.

= Davis got the Lions on the scoreboard with a 51-yard TD run at 6:11 on the clock, cutting Adrian's lead to 14-6. He had a 52-yard TD rush at 3:48 of the third quarter when AC led 41-18.

= Freshman wide receiver Cyaire Johnson caught his first collegiate TD pass with an 8-yard reception from sophomore Noah Heide late in the fourth quarter to round out the scoring. It also was Heide's first TD pass for the Bulldogs.

= Adrian also held the statistical lead in first downs (23-19), total offense (546-431), rushing yards (322-186), takeaways (3-2) and sacks (2-13 yards, 0-0). 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
= Randle, who leads the team with a career-best 76.6 yards rushing per game, surpassed 1,000 yards in his 23-game AC career. He now has 1064 to his credit.

= The Lions are an affiliate member of the MIAA in football only. Their primary sport conference is the American Collegiate Athletic Association, and they are fellow members with Adrian in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association for men and women.

= Adrian leads Finlandia 2-0 in the all-time series that started last season with a 49-6 victory.

UP NEXT
= After a two-game road swing, Adrian returns home to Kapnick Field at Docking Stadium to host two-time defending MIAA champion Trine on Senior Day next Saturday (1 p.m.).
