Emily Moharter, Marissa Land Earn All-Conference Honors at AHIBC Championships

CANTON, Mich.--Behind all-conference performers senior Marissa Land and sophomore Emily Moharter, the Adrian College women's bowling team wrapped up the month of February with an eighth-place showing at the 16-school American Heartland Intercollegiate Bowling Conference Championships held here at Super Bowl on Sunday. The Bulldogs knocked down 3,499 pins, qualifying for the eliminator round to make the cut for the AHIBC championship where they were seventh (663 total) out of eight seeds.

Land anchored the team for the duration of the tournament as a second-team All-AHIBC choice. Moharter was awarded first team honors for the second AHIBC tournament. They were celebrated for their individual successes during the conference tournament season.

Junior Jordyn Stone and senior Kayla Clark also contributed to the success of the team and were assisted by teammates Erica Jones, Kylie Middleton and Adrienne Spranger.

For the championship round, the top eight teams that made the cut were put into two groups of four, where they bowled four baker games to establish the top two for each group in a battle royale for the championship match spots.

Adrian went up against Indiana Tech (seed 1), Alma College (seed 4) and Bowling Green State (seed 5). Unfortunately, Adrian lost to Indiana Tech and Alma, where they went to the final four to face Lawrence Tech and Notre Dame College of Ohio. Indiana Tech came out victorious over Notre Dame, 414 to 407.

In addition, the junior varsity squad took first place out of three teams based off of total pins count after the qualifying 20 baker games. The championship team consisted of freshmen Nicole Discenna, Abby Deslippe, Zoey Deslippe, Christina Rader and Kailee Treloar.

Next up, Adrian is scheduled to participate in the United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Singles and Team Championship on Friday-Sunday, March 8-10, at a site to be determined.
