Women's Bowling Takes Second Place at SHU Halo Open to Open Season

ADRIAN, Mich.--The Adrian College women's bowling team had an impressive debut in its first tournament of the 2019-20 season at the Siena Heights University Halo Open held on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Lenawee Recreation Center.

The Bulldogs were able to bring an A and B team for the competition against nine varsity schools and one junior varsity program. The format for the tournament consisted of two baker sets and six individual games which determined the winner of the tournament. The condition for the tournament was college bowling short pattern #1, which can be found at collegebowling.com.

The team bowled well during bakers, leading the tournament after two sets. They went into the six individual games and were able to obtain a second-place finish overall. Spring Arbor University took the first place finish, leading by 75 pins on the Bulldogs (6040). Third place at the tournament was Siena Heights, which was 317 pins behind SAU. Bowling Green State University, Olivet College and Cornerstone University rounded out the top six.

Individually, junior Erica Jones was able to lead Adrian with a fifth-place finish out of 68 bowlers. Jones tied for fifth overall to receive an all-tournament team citation. Senior Jordyn Stone was seventh and just one place shy of all-tournament status. Also leading the team was freshman Abigail Bird, who finished 11th in the tournament, and sophomore Kylie Middleton who finished 12th.

From the B team, freshman Jessica Brainerd was able to secure 16th place to round off Adrian's presence among the top 25 bowlers for this tournament.

Top individual bowlers from the tournament were first-place Tryna Gladstone from Siena Heights, second-place Savrina Ball from Spring Arbor, and then Clarissa Baldwin from Spring Arbor, Kourtney Rigterink from Cornerstone and Carly Luken from Bowling Green with Jones.
