Women's Basketball Doubled Up at Trine, 86-39

ANGOLA, Ind.--The Adrian women's basketball team dug itself an early hole that it couldn't climb out, as host Trine took advantage to the tune of an 86-39 victory in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
Final Score: Trine University 86, Adrian College 39

Location: MTI Center; Angola, Ind.

Records: Trine Thunder, 19-4 overall (13-1 MIAA); Adrian Bulldogs, 9-14 overall (3-11 MIAA)

TOP 'DAWGS
= Sophomores Chelsea Palmer came off the bench to lead Adrian with eight points and she had six rebounds.

= Junior Sha'Trice Graves (4 points) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and led all student-athletes with three blocked shots.

= Sophomore Rylee Campbell (3 points) led the team with three assists.

THE OPPOSITION
= Tara Bieniewicz scored a game-high 21 points on 7-for-8 field goal shooting, including 5-of-6 from three-point range and 2-for-2 at the free throw line.

= Sophia Kreag came off the bench to net 12 points, making 7-of-8 free throws.

= Kayla Wildman added 11 points.

= Katy Steers (7 points, 5 rebounds) paced all playmakers with seven assists.

= Sam Underhill (5 points) came off the bench to pull down a Thunder-best nine rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
= For the afternoon, Adrian shot 29.5 percent from the field (13-44) while Trine made 27 of 62 field goals for a 43.5 clip.

= The Thunder never trailed, taking a commanding 26-10 first quarter lead. Their advantage grew to 49-18 at halftime.

= Trine converted 30 Adrian turnovers into 32 points and outscored the Bulldogs on points in the paint, 30-16. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Trine is the three-time defending MIAA champion.

= The Thunder sweep the season series and now lead Adrian 19-17 all-time, extending their winning streak to eight games over the Bulldogs.

= Graves maintains her lead atop the MIAA rebounding rankings with 10.4 rebounds per game. She has 551 total in her career to rank fifth on the school's all-time listings, recently surpassing Antoinea McElroy who had 528 from 2012-16.

UP NEXT
= Adrian ends the season with home dates against MIAA opponents Alma on Wednesday (7:30 p.m.) and Calvin for Senior Day on Saturday (3 p.m.).
