Box Score JACKSON, Miss.--The Adrian College baseball team finished 2-1 at the Millsaps College Classic on Monday after downing the host Majors, 10-6, behind season highs in runs and hits (10).

TOP 'DAWGS
= Freshman Angel Gutierrez had a career day at the plate by going 3-for-5.
= Junior Thomas Miller had a double and triple while scoring three runs.
= Senior Brady Wood went 1-for-3 with three runs scored and two walks.
= Senior Spencer Ford (W, 1-0) earned the win in relief, pitching two scoreless innings while giving up just two hits.
= Junior Brandon Cooper had two runs batted in.
THE OPPOSITION
= Mark Petkovsek was 2-for-3.
= Fritz Walker III hit a two-run home run.
= Jimmy Johnstone chipped in a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
= Adrian scored seven runs over the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to turn a 3-2 lead into a 10-5 cushion.
= In the top of the third, Cooper broke a 2-2 tie to put the visiting Bulldogs ahead for good with a fielder's choice to drive in Miller who had led off with a walk and advanced 90 feet on two wild pitches.
= Adrian got some insurance runs in the sixth when it scored three times to take a 6-2 advantage. Sophomore Kevin Cardentey singled down the right field line for a RBI, junior Sean O'Keefe was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and classmate Ty Peck had a RBI-fielder's choice.
= Trailing 7-2 in the seventh, the Majors got back to within a pair. Walker hit a two-run blast over the left field fence and Avery Brock scored on a wild pitch, unearned, to make it 7-5.
= But the Bulldogs answered with another three-run frame in the eighth. Miller scored on a wild pitch and Adrian also took advantage of MC errors to score two unearned runs to restore its five-run lead.
= In the bottom of the ninth, the Majors made things interesting by loading the bases without the benfit of a hit and a run already in. But junior Elliott Edsall, Adrian's seventh pitcher on the day, got Chris Hart line out to left field to end any further damage for the non-conference win.
= The Majors had a dozen runner left on base and Adrian, nine.
= The Bulldogs outhit the home team, 10-6.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= Adrian takes a 3-2 lead in the all-time series over the Majors. Before tonight, Millsaps won 5-2 in their last meeting on March 2, 2016.
= The Bulldogs' pitching staff remains second in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association with 57 strikeouts to Alma's 59. The Scots have pitched 84.2 innings while Adrian has worked 50.1.
= Adrian leads the MIAA with a 3.22 earned-run average.
