HOLLAND, Mich. - At the DeVos Fieldhouse, the Adrian women's volleyball team stuck it out until the very end against the number four-ranked team in Division III, but the relentless attack of the hosts ultimately downed the Bulldogs in straight-sets, halting their winning-streak after two matches.
Hope did well to stifle the visitors hitting, holding Adrian to a season-low 18 kills on 98 attacks.
Ayden Cribbs was responsible for a team-high eight of those kills, while
Blaire Weiman and
Maddy Ritchie each added three.
The first set provided fans with a back-and-forth affair, as neither side could generate any sort of consistent rhythm offensively. Around the mid-point of the set, however, the Flying Dutchmen began to find their footing, leading to a 9-4 run that eventually cliched them the opening frame, 25-18.
After a one-sided middle set, the Bulldogs rallied together in an attempt to extend the match.
The black and gold led by as many as two points in the early stages of the set, but Hope never let its opposition get to far out in front.
A trio of kills by
Ayden Cribbs helped guide the 'Dogs to an 11-10 lead, then the combination of
Destiny Johnson and a couple of Dutchmen attack errors pushed the visitors ahead 14-13.
It is at this moment where the two teams started to trade small jabs at one another, with Hope, in due course, opening up a 23-20 advantage that it would carry to the finish.
Hailey Farrell closed the night was a team-best 11 assists, while
Mya Minjares paced the Bulldogs (6-13, 2-3 MIAA) with 16 digs.
The season's final road trip continues on Saturday at year's third tri-match, hosted by Defiance College.
