Regular-Season Finale Carries Significant Postseason Implications for Women's Soccer

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian women's soccer team has already successfully punched its ticket into the 2021 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) postseason. The only questions that remain now are the date, location and opponent of the Bulldogs' first playoff match. Those uncertainties will become clearer on Tuesday evening when the black and gold host Albion in the regular-season finale.

The Britons (9-3-1, 4-2-1 MIAA) currently hold the fourth seed in the MIAA standings, and are looking to make some moves themselves before this weekend.

Albion garnered a huge boost to its resume last weekend, shutting out Calvin 2-0 at home. However, this past Saturday, Trine handed the Brits a setback with a 4-0 decision on the road.

Rayna Edwards and Megan Loney pace Albion on the scoresheet, combining for 23 points on 28 shots on goal. Edwards, a junior, has a team-high five goals along with two assists, while Loney, also a junior, is the team's most productive dime dropper, contributing five assists to compliment her three goals.

In goal, Romee Natschke is posting some of the conference's best numbers for a keeper. The junior's 52 total saves and 0.825 save-percentage both rank third in the MIAA, while her 0.96 goals-against average is fourth-lowest.

Natschke will have to deal with an Adrian offense averaging 2.71 goals per game against conference opponents, led by one of the MIAA's top scorers in McKenna Mahoney.

The senior actively ranks third in the league in goals (14), points (33) and total shots (64).

She is flanked by Eve Davis, whose recent tear of seven points in two matches has her boasting a conference-best 12 assists.

The locals (10-7, 5-2 MIAA) have also tallied offensive contributions this season from Kaitlyn Dake (5 goals and 1 assist), Morgan Wands (4 goals) and Alexandria Dryps (2 goals and 4 assists).

In between the posts, Taylor Fischer continues to lead the conference in total saves, bringing her season mark up to 90 after Saturday's action in Grand Rapids.

The sophomore sports a 1.58 goals-against average and 0.769 save-percentage in 17 games started for the black and gold.

The Bulldogs can secure a first-round bye in the MIAA playoffs with a win or a draw on Tuesday. They can also clinch a share of the regular-season championship with a win and a Calvin loss versus Kalamazoo.

Adrian and Albion are slated to kick-off from Docking Stadium at 7 p.m.

Live stats and video will be available.
