ADRIAN, Mich. - Much like the women's soccer team, the Adrian women's volleyball team is already through to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association postseason, it's just a matter of when, where and who.
The Bulldogs (7-16, 3-3 MIAA) currently hold the fifth seed in the conference standings, which puts them on the road for the league quarterfinals. If, however, the 'Dogs were to jump a spot to the fourth seed, they would host their postseason-opener at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center.
The road to the fourth seed begins on Wednesday evening against nationally-ranked, Calvin.
The sixth-ranked Knights (24-2, 6-0 MIAA) last lost to fourth-ranked Hope in a non-conference bout back on October 2. Since then, they have won seven in-a-row, including four in straight-sets.
On the season, Calvin has lost only set in conference competition, bullying its opponents with a 0.292 hitting-percentage.
That league-high mark is paced by Heidi Westra's 352 kills and 4.05 kills per set, both of which are conference-highs.
Westra's teammate, Madelyn Hall, actively leads the MIAA with a 0.363 attack-percentage.
Senior, Anna Schriemer sports the MIAA's second-highest assists per set mark at 9.77, while Aubrey Wrubel paces the Knights defensively with 357 digs.
Then, on Friday, the Bulldogs wrap-up their 2021 regular-season on the road at Alma.
The Scots (1-16, 0-6 MIAA) last won a match back on September 25 versus Finlandia. The latter half of the season has not been too kind, as Alma has yet to win a single set since its win over the Lions.
Senior, Haley Ullrich is the only Scot in the line-up with at least 100 kills, currently leading the team with 145. Lexi Dykstra has contributed 202 assists, and Kolbey Boyd leads Alma's backline with 195 digs.
Despite the Scots recent woes, they have won four consecutive matches against Adrian, including a five-set contest this past April.
The Bulldogs enter the week sporting a conference-best 17.47 digs per set mark, led by the efforts of
Mya Minjares.
The freshman ranks second in the MIAA with 428 digs, and her 5.22 digs per set actively ranks fifth all-time in a single-season in Adrian program history.
On the offensive side of the ball,
Mallory Dorow and
Destiny Johnson have emerged as the 'Dogs' leading killers with 196 and 145, respectively.
Hailey Farrell has been primarily responsible for setting up the Adrian attack, chipping in 690 total assists.
Friday's action in Alma is set to begin at 6:30 p.m., as is Wednesday's match-up against Calvin.
The mid-week match will also serve as the Bulldogs' Senior Day! Prior to the opening serve, the Bulldogs will recognize and celebrate the careers of four volleyball student-athletes.
Live stats and video will be available for both of this week's matches.
