KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Adrian College football team traveled to Kalamazoo College for the final game of the 2021 season. The Bulldogs and Hornets were tied early, but Adrian was able to come away with the 33-21 win after shutting out Kalamazoo in the second half.
The Bulldogs jumped on the board first with 8:44 to go in the first quarter on a 13-yard touchdown pass from
Jack Wurzer to
Preston Smith. Kalamazoo responded with a 6-yard rush to tie the game at 7-7. In the second quarter, Kalamazoo took the lead and a pass that set up a 1-yard touchdown run to go up 14-7. The Bulldogs responded with a 41-yard touchdown reception from
Gage Palus to tie the game. Six minutes later, Smith recorded his second touchdown of the game on a 19-yard pass from Wurzer to lead 21-14. It wasn't long until the Hornets responded on a long 46-yard touchdown to head into halftime with the game tied at 21-21.
The Bulldogs scored early in the second half to take the lead 27-21.
Donald Scott recorded a 37-yard touchdown reception, but the extra point from
Cooper West was no good. In the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs went 70 yards on 15 plays and ended with a 1-yard rush from Wurzer to lead 33-21 and grab the win.
Wurzer finished 20-of-25 with 275 yards passing and four touchdowns.
Malik Ray led the backfield with 97 yards rushing followed by 72 from
Steven Moses.
Preston Smith hauled in seven receptions for 90 yards and a pair of scores.
On defense,
Waides Ashmon had a day recording 13 total tackles with 12 solo and four for loss.
The Bulldogs end their season with a 5-5 record with a 3-3 MIAA record.
