ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's basketball team took down the Manchester Spartans at home on Saturday to grab its first win of the season. The Bulldogs won 92-80 over the Spartans with the help of a double-double from
Connor Pelham.
The Spartans took control early as they jumped out to an 8-4 lead. The Bulldogs a run and took a four point lead at 16-12 on a layup from
James Clay. It was neck-and-neck the whole first half with the score tied 31-31 with just under three minutes to play. The Spartans sparked a run at the end of the half and went on to lead 38-34 at halftime.
It was all Bulldogs in the second as they jumped on an early run starting with a three from Pelham, a dunk by
Andrew Larson, and a jumper by
P'hariz Watkins. The Bulldogs went on a 16-2 run and went on to lead 55-42. Adrian kept its foot on the gas the whole way and came away with the 92-80 victory.
Pelham finished the night with 20 points and 14 rebounds for Adrian after shooting 9-of-12 from the field.
De'Ovion Price added 18 on the afternoon followed by 17 from Watkins, 12 from Clay, and 11 from
Robert Warrick.
As a team Adrian added 54 points in the paint and put up 26 on the fast break. The Bulldogs controlled the boards winning the rebound battle 41-34.
Adrian will head to Earlham College on Wednesday, November 17 for its next game. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
