Women's Basketball Runs Past Mount Aloysius for Weekend Sweep

CRESSON, Pa. - At Mount Aloysius' Athletic Convocation and Wellness Center, the Adrian women's basketball team utilized three-straight quarters of 20-plus points to put away the Mounties and complete a perfect weekend in the Mountain Valley Tip-off Classic.

After a solid start to the two-day tournament on Friday, the Bulldogs erupted for 84 points on Saturday, their largest offensive performance since scoring 91 against Olivet College back on January 18, 2020.

Furthermore, the black and gold's 27-point second quarter is their highest-scoring frame since posting 28 in the fourth quarter versus Manchester in November of 2020.

Despite building a lead of six points in the early goings of the afternoon, the visitors could only breath by two after the first ten minutes.

In the second quarter, the Bulldogs gained a slightly more comfortable edge behind their 27-point outburst, but a 20-point effort by the homestanding Mounties kept them right on Adrian's heels.

Then came the second half.

Mount Aloysius put in four of the half's first six points, but a subsequent jumper by Kiaya Warner would ignite an 11-0 run by the Bulldogs to keep their opposition at bay.

The final frame from the black and gold was even more dominate, as they would limit the Mounties to only eight points.

All told, the visitors outscored their opponent 42-19 in the second twenty minutes.

When you break down the final stats, Adrian was lethal in the paint, outscoring the hosts 32-10.

The Bulldogs also received a significant boost from the Mounties' 17 turnovers, producing 21 points off of those new opportunities.

Three Adrian scorers cracked double-figures, including Chelsea Palmer with a game-high 18, then Sara Serbantez and Makayla Clement with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

As a team, the Bulldogs shot 51.6 percent from the field, only their third .500-plus field goal percentage in the last two seasons.

Kourtney Crawford finished just one point and one rebound shy of a double-double, and Katy Shannon led the way with a team-best three assists.

With back-to-back victories now under its belt, the Adrian women's basketball team continues its season-opening road trip on Wednesday at Oberlin College in Ohio.
