Women's Basketball Enters this Week on Two-Game Win-Streak

11/16/2021 12:15:00 PM

ADRIAN, Mich. - As the month of November rolls on, so does the Adrian College women's basketball team's season-opening road trip. After a successful weekend at the Mountain Valley Tip-off Classic in Pennsylvania, which saw the Bulldogs win both of their contests by an average margin of 19.5 points, the locals will make pit-stops this week in Ohio and Indiana.

First, on Wednesday, Adrian visits Oberlin College to challenge the Yeowomen (2-0).

A product of the North Coast Athletic Conference, Oberlin has already had a taste of MIAA competition, defeating Alma 72-65 back on November 9th.

Sophomore guard Gina Lombard erupted for 29 points against the Scots, shooting 10-of-17 from the field, including 5-of-9 from downtown. She followed up that performance against Bluffton a few days later, turning in 15 points, eight rebounds and three assists in the Yeowomen's victory.

Lombard is flanked by the freshmen duo of Bryana Woodard and Camille Zinaich. As two of the four tallest players on the Oberlin line-up, the pair have controlled the action on the glass, combining to average 16.5 rebounds over the Yeowomen's first two contests.

The Bulldogs have not met with Oberlin since November of 2014 in Ohio. The 'Dogs' last win against the Yeowomen came a season earlier at the Merillat.

Then, on Saturday, the black and gold journey to Manchester for the second time in three seasons.

The Spartans (1-1) garnered a bounce-back win versus Kalamazoo this past Friday after dropping a nail-bitter at Rockford (Ill.) to open their season.

Miranda Bieghler, who actively ranks third on the Manchester line-up with 14.5 points per game, paced the team in scoring against the Hornets, finishing 4-of-10 from the floor en route to 12 points. The senior also turned in a game-high six steals.

Fellow senior, Macy Miller, notched 20 points against Rockford back on November 6th, but was inactive against Kalamazoo.

As a team, the Spartans are knocking down 85-percent of their free throws, but only 23.5-percent of their 3-point attempts.

The Bulldogs (2-1), on the other hand, are shooting 32.4-percent from behind the arc, including 31-percent last weekend in Pennsylvania.

MIAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week, Chelsea Palmer currently paces the team in scoring with 15.5 points per game (12-for-19 on field goals).

Kourtney Crawford and Chloe Gilbert have corralled 18 and 15 total rebounds, respectively for Adrian, while Kiaya Warner leads the Bulldogs with seven assists.

Against Mount Aloysius on Saturday, the black and gold set new season-highs in points scored (84), made field goals (33) and assists (17).

The locals will be looking for their longest winning streak in three seasons this week, and it begins on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Live stats and video will be available for both of this week's games.
