ADRIAN, Mich. - On Saturday, the Adrian women's basketball team will resume both its conference schedule and its home schedule when it hosts the Albion College Britons at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center.
The Bulldogs (2-6, 0-2 MIAA) have been out of competition for two weeks, last hitting the hardwood on December 4 against Saint Mary's.
The Brits (8-1, 3-0 MIAA), on the other hand, will have only been off for one week when they make the trip to the Maple City this weekend.
Led by a well-rounded scoring core, Albion actively ranks third in the MIAA with a 69.4 scoring average, trailing both No. 11 Trine and No. 1 Hope.
Dareonna Little, Lolo Reed and Riley Davis pace the Britons in scoring, posting 12.1, 11.8 and 10.9 points per game, respectively. Little, additionally, sits tied atop the conference rankings with 31 offensive rebounds.
Cierra Cole, who has played more minutes than any other Brit on the Albion line-up, leads the MIAA with 27 steals, and behind the senior's efforts, Albion has forced just over 20 turnovers per contest.
Another notable contributor for the Britons this season has been Elena Welker. The junior not only turns in 9.1 points per outing, but also ranks third in the MIAA with 30 total assists.
As for Adrian,
Chelsea Palmer continues to be the 'Dogs primary offensive weapon, currently boasting the conference's third-highest scoring average (13.3) and fifth-best rebounding average (8.0).
Rylee Campbell (8.0 points per game) has connected on at two or more three-pointers in six of her eight appearances this season, while
Makayla Clement (7.1 ppg) leads Adrian with 13 steals and 29 defensive rebounds.
All told, the Bulldogs are pushing home 58.0 points per game, the fourth-lowest mark in the MIAA.
Saturday's match-up will feature two of the conference's longest-active head coaches in Adrian's
Kathy Morris (30th season) and Albion's Doreen Carden (21st season). The two have 633 total wins between them, with Carden holding a 31-11 edge in their all-time series versus one another.
11 of those wins have come consecutively over the last four years, as Albion has outscored Adrian by an average of nearly 16 points during that stretch. The Bulldogs' last win against their conference-rival came back on February 17, 2016.
The action from the Merillat is set to tip-off at 12:45 p.m. with the junior varsity game, followed by the varsity contest at 3 p.m.
Live stats and video will be available for the latter.
