BEREA, Ohio - The Adrian women's tennis team claimed its second consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon, narrowly defeating Baldwin Wallace 5-4.
The number one singles match between the Bulldogs'
Jules Johnson (3-0) and the Yellow Jackets' Ashtyn Morris proved to be the difference maker on the day as Johnson secured a 6-2, 6-3 straight sweep to lock up the locals' fifth point.
Despite the hosts taking each of the remaining three singles duals, they could not overcome the early advantage Adrian had built up from the doubles portion of the match.
Vasiliki Gargasoulas and
Bethany Posey (2-1) got the ball rolling for the black and gold, defeating Lizzy Cole and Kailin Breedlove 8-2.
Regan Snyder and
Liv Depies (2-0) followed up with an 8-6 victory over Kerrigan Ponsart and Hanna LeMaster.
In the singles competition, with Adrian leading 2-1, the 'Dogs started play with Depies (2-1) upending Cole 6-1, 6-2. Then, Posey (2-1) fought off Ponsart 7-5, 6-1 before Johnson sealed the deal with her individual win.
The women's tennis team continues its fall portion of the season on September 16 when they return to Adrian to host Bethel (Ind.) The Bulldog men are also expected to be competition on that same Thursday for their season-opener.
