ADRIAN, Mich. - After nearly a week's worth of rest, the Adrian women's volleyball team is set to return to the hardwood when they host Baldwin Wallace on Saturday morning at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center.
The homecoming showdown will be the Bulldogs first match since competing in the MIAA/NCAC Crossover in Sandusky, Ohio on September 10 and 11.
Adrian (3-6) enters this weekend with two wins in its last four matches, including a five-set thriller over Bluffton back on September 8.
Despite the sub-.500 record, the Bulldogs boast some of the highest numbers in all of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), ranking inside the top three in total kills (421, 3rd), total assists (390, 3rd), total blocks (55, 2nd) and total digs (2nd), for which they also rank 24th in Division III with 674.
Mya Minjares, who became the first Bulldog athlete to receive MIAA Player of the Week honors in any sport earlier this week, holds the second-highest mark in the conference in total digs with 172, ranking her in a tie for 12th in the country.
Hailey Farrell's 307 total assists are second-most among MIAA setters, and 13th in Division III. The sophomore's primary targets at the net have been
Mallory Dorow and
Katelyn Bergman with 73 and 72 kills, respectively. Bergman, a junior, also sports the conference's tenth-best attack percentage at 0.308.
As for the Yellow Jackets (8-3), the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) product is led by the conference's leading killer in Cecelia Hamisch (134). Additionally, as a team, Baldwin Wallace leads the OAC with 441 total assists, highlighted by Lauren Reid's 391 dimes.
Adrian's opposition for Saturday's contest has won six consecutive matches, including a four-game sweep of competition at the Penn State Behrend Invitational in Erie, Pennsylvania a weekend ago.
