Defense Holds Finlandia to 87 Total Yards of Offense in 56-6 Win

HANCOCK, Mich. -- The Adrian College football team traveled up north to take on the Lions of Finlandia University. After a nine hour drive, the Bulldogs came ready to play defeating the Lions 56-6. Adrian totaled 541 yards of total offense while Finlandia total just 87 yards of offense.

The Bulldogs led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. Quarterback Jack Wurzer rushed for ten yards for a touchdown to open the scoring. In the second quarter, Jimmie Clark rushed seven yards for a touchdown to lead 14-0. On Adrian's next drive, Steven Moses added a touchdown on a 16-yard rush to put Adrian ahead 20- after the failed extra point attempt. Clark went on to rush for his second touchdown of the game which was followed by a 15-yard touchdown reception by Kenny Kujawa to head into halftime with a 33-0 lead.

The Bulldogs kept their foot on the gas in the second half. Clark recorded his third touchdown of the game on a 1-yard rush to lead 40-0. Backup quarterback Brandon Nelson entered the game for Adrian and threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Poirier on his first play to extend the Adrian lead. Finlandia scored late in the third quarter to put themself on the board. The Bulldogs answer in the fourth on a 54-yard field goal by Walker Evans and a 2-yard touchdown rush by Nelson to come away with the 56-6 win.

The Adrian defense had themselves a day led by a team-high seven tackles from Jack MacArthur. Deandre Jennings recorded an interception that was returned for 32 yards in the first half. The Bulldogs recorded 11 tackles for loss and ten pass break ups during the game. Sam Madrid, Trevon Daniel, and Kyle Minder added five tackles each. Trevor Schornack forced a fumble on defense for Adrian.

Saturday's win moves Adrian to 2-2 on the season and puts the winning streak at two games. The Bulldogs return to action on the road at Trine University on Saturday, October 2 at 1:00 PM to begin conference play.
