WOOSTER, Ohio - A goal scored by the homestanding Scots in the 93rd minute halted the Adrian women's soccer team's win streak after two matches.
On Saturday afternoon, the visiting Bulldogs strolled into Wooster riding a two-game shutout-streak behind the efforts of sophomore goalkeeper,
Taylor Fischer. That stretch of over 200 minutes was snapped early in the first half, however, putting Adrian in a familiar deficit.
The lead for Wooster did not hold for very long, nevertheless, as a Scots' foul in the midfield would set up the black and gold's first goal.
Zoe Blanchard set up shop from just beyond the center line, delivering in a free kick towards the traffic that had formed on the edge of the penalty area. The free ball was eventually picked up by
Eve Davis, who after spinning and winning her way around a pair of defenders, passed the ball off to
Morgan Wands. The sophomore took a light touch on the ball before lining a shot into the bottom left corner from around 20 yards out to tie the game. The tally is Wands' fourth on the season, behind only
McKenna Mahoney, who produced her team-leading seventh goal later in the match.
After Wooster restored their lead in the closing stages of the first half, the locals were in search of another equalizer. Though Adrian would garner several opportunities early in the second frame, it was not until the 60th minute that the game was redrawn level.
A turnover deep in the Bulldogs defensive zone sparked a quick counter-attack by
Hailey Stowe. The freshman carried the ball towards midfield before sending a pass up ahead. Stowe's pass was brought down by Davis and scooped up by Mahoney. After cutting back in towards the middle of the field, the senior launched a well-paced ball over the outreached arm of the Scots goalkeeper for the Bulldogs' second score.
Neither team could find any additional help in regulation, leading to the overtime period in which Wooster netted the game-winner.
The locals saw a team-high four shots from
Kelsey Zoli, and another three each from Mahoney and Davis.
Fischer, racked up seven saves for Adrian between the posts.
The 'Dogs close non-conference play with a 5-5 record, and will begin Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Tuesday, September 28 at home versus Alma at 7 p.m.
