ANGOLA, Ind. - At Hershey Hall, the homestanding Trine Thunder limited the Adrian women's volleyball team to a 0.159 and 0.143 attack percentage in the first and third sets en route to a three-set sweep of the Bulldogs.
The action was evenly played in the early stages of the first set, leading to an 8-8 score. The home side did eventually pull ahead thanks to a 5-0 run, but Adrian responded in kind, outscoring the Thunder 8-3 to even the set once again, at 16-16.
Trine, however, managed to pull out another clutch run, posting six straight points on their way to claiming the first set 25-21.
In the second set, the black and gold utilized a 0.323 hitting percentage to battle back from a seven-point deficit and tie the frame at 20-20, but from there, the hosts were the first to five, sealing the set 25-23.
The game's final set was plagued by costly Adrian errors and untouchable serving by the Thunder. After opening up a 12-7 lead on the visitors, Trine stormed away with ten straight points, including five service aces.
For the Bulldogs (4-11, 1-2 MIAA),
Ayden Cribbs turned in a game-high 17 kills to go along with a 0.293 attack percentage.
Hailey Farrell dished out 26 assists for Adrian, while
Blaire Weiman led the way defensively with eight digs.
Next up for the black and gold is a tri-match on Saturday afternoon at Wilmington College in Ohio. The 'Dogs' first match of the day versus Heidelberg is slated for a 3 p.m. start time.
