Game 1 |
Adrian 1, Berea 3 (23-25, 22-25, 25-16, 19-25)
The Bulldogs put forth their highest attack percentage of the season in their first match on Saturday, but it was not enough to avoid another four-set defeat at the hands of the Mountaineers.
Just as the result of Friday night's dual with the hosts, the locals were issued a two-set deficit before rallying off a win in the third frame.
In that third set, Adrian stormed out to a commanding 17-7 lead behind two runs of four points and five points each. Despite being outscored 9-8 the rest of the way, the early hole was too deep of a climb for Berea, sealing the set for the black and gold.
In the following set, the Mountaineers opened up a sizeable advantage of their own, leading by as many as six before Adrian began to chip away. The 'Dogs would only pull within two, however, as the home side closed the match on a 4-0 mini-run.
Sophomore,
Mallory Dorow recorded 13 kills to pace the Bulldogs. Three others tallied nine kills each for Adrian.
Hailey Farrell assisted on 43 successful attacks, marking the second match of the season in which she has dished out 40 or more.

Game 2 |
Adrian 2, Rochester 3 (25-18, 21-25, 25-23, 21-25, 12-15)
The final match for the Bulldogs at the Berea Tournament lasted undoubtably the longest, persisting to a winner-take-all fifth set. Only this match with the Warriors saw a different victor as the team from Rochester Hills fought back from a 2-1 shortfall to defeat the locals.
Adrian looked to be in good shape early on, winning the opening the set by a decent margin before the opposition responded in kind.
The Warriors opened the third set with all the momentum on their side, racing out to a 13-5 lead.
An
Ayden Cribbs kill, however, would change the tide and bring the 'Dogs back into contention. A 10-2 stretch by Adrian tied the set at 15-15. From there, the two sides traded jabs until the black and gold regained control for good to go up two sets to one.
The final two frames fell in favor of Rochester, nevertheless, spoiling the Bulldogs' chances of splitting not only the day but the tournament.
Cribbs led the locals with 16 kills, followed by Dorow with 11 and
Katelyn Bergman with 10.
Hailey Farrell capitalized on her performance from the earlier match with 50 assists.
Adrian has a swift turnaround on their plate, returning home to host Bluffton on September 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center.
