GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Adrian College men's volleyball team finished its first preseason tournament on Saturday hosted by Cornerstone University. The Bulldogs faced a group of NAIA teams as they fell to Siena Heights and Lawrence Tech on Friday, and lost to Cornerstone and Aquinas College on Saturday.
 Adrian dropped its first match of the day to Cornerstone 3-2 in a five-set battle. Adrian grabbed the first set by a score of 25-20 and dropped the second set 25-18. The Bulldogs came from behind to win the third set 25-23, but Cornerstone picked up wins in the fourth and fifth set to win the match.
The Bulldogs finished the match with an attack percentage of .157 as a team against Cornerstone's .279.
Chase Heuer led the team with 16 kills followed by 11 from
Brendan Gula, and eight from
Peyton Doelling.
Brandon Ravelo and Doelling each picked up three aces while Ravelo recorded 43 assists. Doelling added 13 digs to lead the team as
Jacob Rembulat added nine, and Heuer added eight.
Adrian went on to play Aquinas in the final match of the tournament where they lost 3-0. Aquinas won the set by scores of 25-19, 25-23, and 25-16. Aquinas finished the match with a hitting percentage of .408 compared the the Bulldogs' .184.
Doelling led Adrian in kills with ten followed by seven from
Beck Fieldhouse, and five from
Brendan Gula and
Chase Heuer. Ravelo added 27 assists in the match while Doelling led the team with six digs.
The Bulldogs will regroup and return to action at home as they host a four-team tournament. Adrian's first match will take place on Saturday, January 22 at 12:00 PM against Millikin followed by a doubleheader against Marian (Wis.) and Olivet on Sunday.
