GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - At Van Noord Arena, the homestanding Calvin University Knights limited the Adrian women's basketball team to single-digits in scoring in three out of four quarters en route to a 62-37 victory.
Chelsea Palmer posted her third double-double performance in four games, pacing the Bulldogs with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
It took three minutes into the first quarter for either team to find the game's first points. A Gabby Timmer layup got the ball rolling for the Knights, who eventually pounced out to a 12-8 lead after ten minutes.
In the second quarter, the hosts, again held Adrian to just eight points, expanding their advantage to 14 points by the end of the first half.
The visitors tried to orchestrate a rally in the early stages of the third frame, as back-to-back three-pointers by
Jordan Phillips and
Kiara Wernette had the 'Dogs rolling on the right track.
However, persistent pressure from the Knights from that point on helped them to maintain their lead and hang on for the conference win.
Kiaya Warner added six points for Adrian on a 3-for-6 effort from the floor, while Wernette finished with five points, six rebounds, two steals and two assists off the bench.
As a team, the Bulldogs (5-10, 2-5 MIAA) shot 27.9 percent from the field, and attempted only two from the charity stripe.
The locals, having played their last four contests on the road, return to the Merillat Sport and Fitness Center on January 19 to host Alma.
