Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Joel Snyder

Women's Basketball Overwhelmed by Calvin

ADRIAN, Mich. - On Wednesday evening, the Adrian women's basketball team returned to its home floor for the first time in 2022, dropping a 73-40 contest to the visiting Knights of Calvin University.

The result marks a second loss in less than two weeks for the Bulldogs against their conference-foe. The Knights previously upended the black and gold in Grand Rapids earlier this month, and had to fight from behind in order to clinch this latest meeting,

The two sides traded small jabs to open the first quarter, eventually leading to an 8-6 advantage for the visitors. However, a quick counter sparked by a Makayla Clement three-pointer saw the 'Dogs pull ahead 11-8.

Calvin began to answer back, but Adrian held its ground, closing the frame on a 5-2 run, which was capitalized by a deep three-point shot from Chloe Gilbert.

The Knights found a way to sneak in front early in the subsequent quarter, forcing the Bulldogs into a series of turnovers that would become points on the other end of the floor.

In fact, the visitors finished with 24 total points off of 17 Adrian turnovers, a hole the home side could never fully dig itself out of.

A 13-0 stretch by the Knights all but sealed the deal, as they went on to outscore the Bulldogs 42-17 in the second half.

Chelsea Palmer led Adrian with 13 points and five rebounds, followed by six points, six assists and four rebounds off the bench from Kiara Wernette.

Next up for the black and gold (5-12, 2-7 MIAA) is a road trip to Indiana to take on Saint Mary's College on Saturday, before returning to the Maple City on Monday to host Alma College.
