Bulldog Men Set for First-Ever Illinois Wesleyan Invite

ADRIAN, Mich. - Two tournaments down, two to go.

This weekend, the Adrian men's volleyball team will make its farthest trip of the season to date, journeying to Bloomington, Illinois for the inaugural Illinois Wesleyan Invitational.

The black and gold (2-5) will challenge the homestanding Titans at 11 a.m. EST before closing their stay against Concordia-Chicago at 1 p.m. EST.

The Cougars only just opened their 2022 campaign earlier this week against North Central College, dropping a 3-0 decision to the Cardinals at home.

Luke Vozenilek turned in nine kills and six digs for Concordia-Chicago, while Tyler Holubek contributed 18 assists and seven digs.

As for Illinois Wesleyan, the green and white are rolling off of back-to-back victories over Rockford University. The second of which was done in come-from-behind fashion after the Titans had fallen back two sets to none.

K.J. Johnson highlighted the five-set thriller with a 27-dig, 13-kill double-double, and Julian Perez complimented with a 20-kill effort.

On the season, Michael Eastman leads the Titan's offensive attack with 33 total kills. The sophomore also recently represented the program as its first conference player of the week on Monday.

Illinois Wesleyan's first opponent on Saturday, the Bulldogs, last competed at their own home tournament last weekend. The black and gold won two out of their three matches, and were 6-4 in total sets won.

Chase Heuer actively ranks second in the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) with 83 total kills, while his 3.46 attacking average sits fourth.

Senior Brandon Ravelo boasts the conference's highest assist average at 9.72, and also ranks second with 0.48 service aces per set.

On the defensive end, Jacob Rembulat's 44 total digs are fourth-most among the MCVL's top back-linemen.

All told, Adrian sports a conference second-best 0.165 hitting-percentage behind a league-leading 268 kills. Furthermore, the 'Dogs also rank number one in total assists (268), total service aces (36) and points per set (14.0).
