Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Joel Snyder

Women's Basketball Defuses Olivet for First Conference Win

OLIVET, Mich. - At the Cutler Event Center, Chelsea Palmer and Makayla Clement each recorded double-doubles to help guide the Adrian women's basketball team to its first conference win of the 2021-22 season, defeating Olivet 67-57.

The latter of the two corralled a game-high 13 boards, marking the highest single-game total for the program since Rachel Bucher pulled down 14 against the same Comet squad back on February 17, 2021.

It was also in that late-winter meeting that two Bulldog teammates last posted a double-double in the same contest, as Palmer and Bucher each cracked double-figures in both points and rebounds.

On Wednesday evening, the tone for this most recent match-up was set early as both sides traded the lead throughout the first quarter, ultimately resulting in a one-point advantage for the homestanding Comets.

Then, with the game knotted at 20-20 in the following frame, a jumper by Bailey Taylor would spark a 12-2 run by the black and gold, punctuated by a steal and score by Rylee Campbell.

Behind that run, Adrian was able to carry a 32-28 cushion into the halftime break, eventually ballooning its lead to as many as 13 early in the final quarter.

Palmer led the way in scoring for the locals with 17 points, including 11 in the second half to go along with her 11 rebounds, while Campbell, who finished with 16 in the scorebook, contributed 14 of her total in the first half.

On the glass, the 'Dogs muscled a season-high 55 total boards.

Adrian (4-8, 1-3 MIAA) continues its conference road trip this Saturday afternoon at Kalamazoo. Tip-off against the Hornets is currently slated for 1 p.m.
