ADRIAN, Mich. – The Adrian College women's NCAA hockey team looked to complete the sweep on Sunday afternoon over Marian University. After coming off a 9-1 victory the night before, Sunday's game was closer in scoring with the Bulldogs coming away with a 3-2 victory in overtime.
The Bulldogs struck late in the first period on a goal from
Jessica VonRuden.
Une Bjelland and
Jessica Anderson recorded assists on the opening goal. Sunday's game marked the 100
th game of Anderson's career making her the 33
rd player in program history to reach the milestone.
The second period was scoreless, but Marian tied the game up in the third. Bjelland responded two minutes later with a goal to reclaim the lead. Marian answered again and tied the game at 2-2.
With less than two minutes to go in regulation, Adrian picked up a pair of penalties and was forced to begin overtime on a 5-on-3 penalty kill.
Reaghan Pietrowski was the first out of the penalty box in overtime and broke up a Marian pass bringing the puck into the Adrian offensive zone. Bjelland received a pass from Pietrowski to net the game winning goal and win 3-2.
Adrian out-shot Marian 49-11 on the afternoon.
Annie Gilbert made her first career appearance and start in goal for the Bulldogs where she recorded nine saves.
The Bulldogs return to action at home on Friday, November 18 as they host Trine University at 7:00 PM.
