Game Recap: Men's NCAA Ice Hockey |

Men's Hockey Ties 2-2 in Rematch Against No. 4 Augsburg

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The No. 1 Adrian College NCAA men's hockey team made the long trip to Minnesota to take on the No. 4 Augsburg University Auggies. The last time the two teams met was in the 2022 NCAA Division III Frozen Four where the Bulldogs came away with the semifinal victory. After 65 minutes of play, Adrian and Augsburg finished in a 2-2 tie with the Auggies winning a 1-0 shootout.
 
The first period went scoreless between the Bulldogs and the Auggies. Adrian totaled 12 shots in the first period against Augsburg's eight.
 
Just over a minute into the second period, Augsburg jumped out to a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal. Five minutes later Matus Spodniak netted his sixth goal of the season in three games to tie things up at 1-1. Sam Ruffin and Jaden Shields added assists on the goal. Just over three minutes later, Ryan Pitoscia scored his second goal of the season on assists from John Kaljian and Chase Spencer to take a 2-1 lead. Adrian out-shot Augsburg 17-3 in the second period and headed into the second intermission with a one-goal lead.
 
Augsburg controlled the third period as they out-shot the Bulldogs 22-9. With 5:14 to go in regulation, the Auggies netted a power play goal to tie the game 2-2 which later forced overtime.
 
After five minutes of overtime, the Bulldogs and the Auggies went into a shootout. Augsburg came away with the shootout victory after scoring on its second opportunity while Adrian went scoreless.
 
Dershahn Stewart got the start in goal on Thursday night allowing two goals and collecting 34 saves.
 
Adrian will look to finish the trip with a win against the University of Wisconsin-Superior on the road on Friday night at 8:00 PM EST.
