ADRIAN, Mich. - On Friday afternoon, the (RV) Adrian women's NCAA hockey team continued its winning-ways, utilizing a pair of second period goals to keep the visiting St. Norbert Green Knights at bay en route to a 2-1 victory.
Kaleigh Cadorette and
Karmen Anderson tallied the Bulldogs' (17-6-1, 14-1-0 NCHA) goals in the middle period, while
Une Bjelland,
Kathryn Truban,
Jessica VonRuden and
Emma Corbett each contributed one assist apiece.
The scoring for the black and gold opened after 32 minutes, following an action-packed, yet scoreless first frame. Just past the mid-point of the second period, the home side started up the ice from their own end, gaining momentum as they hit the attacking blueline. A transition wrist-shot by Truban upon entry into the zone was mishandled by the Knights' netminder and fumbled just outside the crease where a mad scramble ensued.
Out of the chaos, the puck eventually found the tape of Cadorette, who then sent a shot past the sprawling Ashley Ommen for the game's first goal.
Later in the period, Anderson would squeak in the what ultimately stood as the game-winning goal, finishing off a keen-eye pass from the captain, VonRuden in front of the net.
The visitors did manage a powerplay goal late in the third period to cut their deficit in half, but the Adrian defense held strong through the final buzzer.
Sophie Goldberg continued to showcase her shot-stopping agility, corralling 25 saves to clinch her team-leading ninth win of the season, and fourth in her last four starts.
The women will conclude their regular-season tomorrow afternoon against St. Norbert. The day will begin, however, with the recognition of the team's six seniors at 10:30 a.m. at Arrington Ice Arena.
