GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The quarterfinals of the MIAA women's basketball tournament kicked off on Wednesday night with the Adrian College women's basketball taking on Calvin University on the road. Prior to Wednesday's game,
Chelsea Palmer was recognized at center court for her Second Team All-MIAA honor. Adrian struggled on the night as they dropped Wednesday's contest 75-46.
Adrian was in the game early with the help of back-to-back baskets from Palmer to put the Bulldogs down 5-4. Palmer went on to score the next four points for Adrian, but an 8-0 run forced an Adrian timeout down 19-8. Calvin finished the quarter with a 26-13 lead.
The Bulldogs had a rough second period scoring only five points compared to 16 from the nights to trail 42-18 at the break.
Adrian started the second half with baskets from
Kiaya Warner and
Makayla Clement.
Katy Shannon later scored as did
Bailey Taylor and
Rylee Campbell. The Bulldogs totaled 13 points in the third quarter against Calvin's 15 points to trail 57-31 after three.
The Bulldogs cleared the bench in the fourth quarter to put every dressed player in the box score as Calvin went on to win to end Adrian's season.
Palmer led the offense for Adrian with 9 points followed by six from
Rylee Campbell. The team struggled shooting as they shot 30.4% from the floor.
The Bulldogs end their season with a 9-17 record and will return to action next year for the 2022-23 season.
